Ngāpuhi agencies drive Kaikohe social housing
Stage two of an ambitious project to boost social housing in Kaikohe was opened this morning.
MP Peeni Henare, who kicked off the project as associate minister for Maori Housing in the previous Government, says the development of the former RSA site at the northern end of the town was a joint effort between Te Hauora o Ngāpuhi, Te Runanga o Ngāpuhi, Far North Holdings and government agencies.
Stage one which included about 20 dwellings to support people transitioning from prison opened last September.
“This morning we opened stage two which was another 20 dwellings, the majority three bedroom but also two bedroom where we can start taking whanau,” Mr Henare says.
Stage three is set to be finished in September, with the total development about 80 homes.
